If you’re really pinching pennies or simply interested in finding out what it takes to get free internet; you’re at the right place. From using free Wi-Fi, to turning your phone into a hotspot and low income internet; free internet is out there just not in the most convenient of places.
We’ve gathered four underutilized sources for free high speed internet here. When you’re in a pinch and need to get connected, this list has solutions. We still recommend having the internet at home, but if your internet is down or you’re on the go, you’re not completely out of luck.
Visit Your Local Library
If your internet is down, visit your local library! We guarantee they’ve missed you! Most local libraries have free Wi-Fi you can use while you’re there. All you need to do is sign up and become a member if you’re not already and you’ll have free access to everything they have to offer. Yes, you have to be physically present in the library to use their Wi-Fi, but it can be a really quiet workspace and you get the added benefits of being able to check out books and other media while you’re visiting.
Visit A Coffee Shop
Another option you have is to visit your favorite coffee shop! Most if not all local coffee shops have free Wi-Fi these days. So visit your local coffee shop, grab a cup of coffee and hop online! Coffee shops don’t mind if you hang out and use their Wi-Fi as long as you buy something and are courteous of their space. If your internet is down or you need a change of scenery in a not so quiet place, your local coffee shop is an excellent choice.
Turn Your Smartphone Into A Hotspot
If your internet isn’t working and you’re in the middle of the work day, consider using your phone as a mobile hotspot! Most smartphones have the hotspot capability available, you’d just have to turn it on and connect. It essentially works like your router, except it’s your phone instead.
Before you decide to use your mobile hotspot, check with your wireless provider and see what the mobile hotspot plan looks like. Some providers include mobile hotspotting into your existing data plan and some have their own separate data allowance. Either way, the only way to be sure that it’s something you’re already paying for, check it out before connecting and surfing away to avoid any overage charges or fees.
