Android users likes the open ecosystem of Android Operating System, it allows android users to do anything they want without any restriction but that comes at a price. Android users always find them under malware attack or scam through fake App. Now a new Malware report by Cisco reveals that 99% of mobile malware in 2013 targeted android users. While mobile malware stands at very small portion compared to overall malware in the world.
The report Published by Cisco:
“Not all mobile malware is designed to target specific devices, however. Many encounters involve phishing, likejacking, or other social engineering ruses, or forcible redirects to websites other than expected. An analysis of user agents by Cisco TRAC/SIO reveals that Android users, at 71 percent, have the highest encounter rates with all forms of web-delivered malware, followed by Apple iPhone users with 14 percent of all web malware encounters.”
The report was published last week, but Apple marketing SVP Phill Schiller points to this report by tweeting this link. Phill Schiller has many times points to reports in which Android or it’s manufacturers are bashed, earlier this year also, he tweeted a link in which Samsung was shown to be boosting up results for benchmark test.
The report says that 71% Android users targeted through all forms web delivered malware, while on the other hand only 14% Apple iPhone users were targeted through web delivered malware. Android users were targeted by many malware like phishing, likejacking, or other social engineering ruses, or forcible redirects to websites other than expected.
Cisco also notes that mobile malware accounts for only 1.2% compared to overall malware attacks. While this is very low attack but in future it gonna increase and it will affect Android users the most.
So Android users beware and don’t click any suspicious link and don’t download any fake app.
