Your work has your name on it

When you create something for a client, you are selling your work to them, Of course, you have no control over what they do with the work that you have created for them, but you do still need to take some ownership of it. If you are asked to design something that could be used in the wrong way, or could cause offence, then maybe you need to ask yourself whether or not that is the right  job for you. After all, that design is then going to be out there with your name on it.

You can guide the clients on their choices

Designing is a skill and one that you can become an expert in if you practice. However, it is surprising how many designers then choose to not pass those expertise over to their clients. If you are working with a client who really seems to be struggling with their ideas, then you should feel able to guide them through the process. Ask them why they want the things that they want and maybe even show them that there is a better solution, one that they may not have thought about.

You should welcome criticism

We know that it is hard to be criticised, especially when you have worked really hard to come up with a design for a client. However, it is important to remember that criticism is important. It shows you the ways that you can grow and develop and gives you the chance to work on those parts of yourself too.

You need to work to know more about your client

It is vitally important that you take the time to learn more about the person who you are completing the work for. Of course, you need to understand your client, but you also need to understand their target audience too. If you have this set out, then you can make sure that the work that you produce is going to be as appealing as possible to both these audiences.
