Indian Fashion e-commerce portal Myntra is on a back foot. Last year the company adopted the app only model and stopped accessing to the portal via its desktop website.
But now a year later, Myntra has realized that shutting down the desktop website completely was a bad idea. The company will bring back the desktop website and re-launch it starting with 1st June.
In last year, Myntra’s mobile strategy witnessed huge success with 70% growth and it became very popular app. Myntra says that it is bringing back its desktop website because users wanted it back, especially women wanted the desktop site back.
Myntra CEO, Ananth Narayanan said, “At Myntra, we’ve always believed in taking bold calls and pushing innovation forward. We tried to do this last year because we thought we can offer consumers a much better experience on the mobile. While that is still true that the mobile experience is far superior to the web, we have recognized that some consumers still want the option to shop on the web and we’re humble enough to listen to our customers.”
In the next phase of Myntra’s rapid growth, the company will be launching home furnishing and jewelry, where larger screens can complement the experience on apps. Myntra expects 15-20% of its sales to come from the website.
