Earlier this month Apple released iOS 10 beta to developers. The iPhone maker announced the operating system with many new features and improvements. It will be release to public in September 2016.

Apple iOS 10While the company pointed out key new features, it didn’t tell about many hidden features. One of the new feature which Apple has added with iOS 10 is ability to delete stock apps.

Until now there was no way to delete stock apps but now you can delete stock Apps(sort of!) in Apple iOS 10. By deleting the app, it will be removed from home screen but it won’t be deleted from system.

Craig Federighi, SVP, Software engineering of Apple has revealed how deleting stock apps on iOS 10 works. He says that when you delete the stock app from home screen, the user data and public strings will be deleted. But the app binary itself will not be deleted.

He has also said that stock apps binary takes only 150MB of storage. And these binary files are integrated into OS. These binary files plays an important role in verifying software update.

Apple has released the stock apps as individual apps in the App Store. The company also notes that new feature will be released with OS updates only. You will not get new features on the stock app from App Store.

The apps are actually hidden from home screen. When you try to re-download the app from App Store, the app doesn’t get downloaded because the binary file is still present. The app icon just shows up on the homescreen.

Not all stock apps can be hidden on iOS 10 but almost all apps like Mail, Calculator, Reminder, weather, Maps, News, iTunes Store, Video, Compass, Music, Contacts and others.

So whatever may be the option Apple gives to remove the stock app is good as many people don’t like to have unused apps on Home-Screen. iOS 10 will be released to Public in September and its public beta will be out next month.
