Nokia is Back!! yes you read it right, After Microsoft acquired Nokia handset division, it looked like Nokia will not make a comeback soon. But Nokia is back in the consumer electronics market with Nokia N1.
Nokia N1 is the first Nokia-branded Android tablet. Nokia N1 runs on latest Android 5.0 Lollipop Operating System. As a part of deal with Microsoft, Nokia cannot use ‘Nokia‘ brand name for smartphones until 2016, so Nokia opted for Android powered Tablet.
Nokia N1 will go on sale in China from Q1 2015. Nokia N1 is priced at $249(Rs. 15,300) before taxes. After that it will be released in other countries.
But don’t think that our old Nokia is back, instead Nokia is licensing its brand name to OEM partners. Nokia will only provide design, software layer and technology, rest of things will be done by OEM partner.
Nokia in a press release said:
Nokia is licensing the industrial design, Z Launcher software layer and IP on a running royalty basis to the OEM partner. The OEM partner is responsible for full business execution, from engineering and sales to customer care
Nokia N1 design is quite similar to Apple iPad Mini, Nokia N1 screen size is similar to iPad Mini. The position of Camera, volume rocker matches with iPad Mini, its aluminum back is also similar to iPad mini. One of the best thing about Nokia N1 is reversible USB connector, which means you can insert both sides of USB cable into Nokia N1.
The Nokia N1 sports a 7.9 inch (2048×1536 pixels) IPS display at 324ppi protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has Fully laminated display with zero air-gap . It is powered by a 2.3 GHz Quad Core Intel Atom Z3580 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.
For graphics, Nokia N1 has PowerVR G6430 GPU. Nokia N1 comes with 32 GB of on-board storage(ROM), which cannot be expanded.
The Nokia N1 features a 8 Megapixel Autofocus rear camera, and a 5 megapixel front camera. The camera can record videos at 1080p. The device packs a 5,300 mAh battery
Nokia N1 connectivity options include Wi-Fi, (802.11a/b/g/n/ac); dual channel (2.4GHz & 5GHz) with MIMO, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and Micro-USB 2.0 with a Type-C reversible connector.
Nokia N1 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Nokia N1 comes with Nokia Z launcher which comes with Nokia’s own custom UI.
