Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus launched its latest flagship smartphone, OnePlus 5 in India last month. The device went on sale on 27 June last month. The company had launched both 6GB and 8GB RAM variants in India. It’s price in India starts at Rs. 32,999.
We have been using the device for over two weeks now and today we are bringing you its unboxing, First boot setup, Hands-On and First impressions. We have the OnePlus 8GB RAM variant with us. So let’s start with the unboxing.
OnePlus 5 8GB Unboxing:
We have the reviewers unit of OnePlus 5 with us. Ours is a special box which comes in special packaging and has protective covers inside. Earlier we had also shared the unboxing on our YouTube channel, which is also attached here.
The smartphone comes in a White box with red color on its back side. The OnePlus 5 box has big 5 written on it. The box contents of the device are pretty normal. It doesn’t come with any special content.
OnePlus 5 Box contents are Handset, Dash Charger, USB Type-C Cable, User Guide, Sim ejector tool and a special message card from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. It doesn’t comes with earphones. You can checkout our unboxing video below:
OnePlus 5 First Boot and initial Setup:
After the unboxing of the device, we bring you OnePlus 5 First Boot and Initial setup. We have created a video so that you can easily check out the first boot steps and easily configure the device.
On booting the OnePlus 5, you can setup the device as new or you can copy the data from your existing Android device or Apple iPhone. To copy the data from your old device, you need to be in same Wi-Fi network. After that you will be required to sign in with your Google account.
In the initial setup of OnePlus 5, you can add your fingerprint so that you can unlock the device easily. Before setting up Fingerprints, you need to set an alternative password, pin or pattern. You can check the video attached above to see all the steps.
OnePlus 5 Hands-On and First Impressions:
As we have already told you that we are using the 8GB RAM variant of OnePlus 5. The phone itself is a power house with top notch processor and heavy 6GB/8GB RAM. The company has launched the phone in two color options – Slate Grey and Midnight Black.
However the amazing Midnight Black colour is restricted to OnePlus 5 8GB RAM model only and the Slate Grey is available in 6GB RAM model only. So you have to decide the colour of your choice and OnePlus will decide the specifications of the device.
As you can see in the image above, we are giving you a closer look towards both color options of OnePlus 5. On the left side there is 6GB RAM model in Slate Grey colour and on the right side there is a 8GB RAM model in midnight Black color.
Now lets talk about the phone itself. OnePlus 5 comes with a dual camera setup on its back side with dual LED flash. On the bottom side of the device, there is 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port and speaker grills.
On the right side of OnePlus 5 there is Power button. On the left side, there Volume rocker and profile slider. And on the front side you will find a selfie camera, Display and Fingerprint sensor under its home button.
OnePlus 5 sports a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED 2.5D Display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The screen is harp and provides good viewing angles. The Display cannot be scratched easily as there is a Gorilla Glass coating.
OnePlus 5 is powered by latest high end 64 bit 2.45GHz Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor. For Graphics it has a Adreno 540 GPU. The device comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. In our brief hand on the operations on the phone are buttery smooth, it doesn’t hangs up and can play high intensive games easily. It also handles multi tasking effectively.
OnePlus 5 comes with dual camera setup. It comes with 16 Megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor sensor primary and 20 Megapixel Sony IMX350 sensor secondary rear camera with Dual LED flash. While for selfies, It comes with a 16 Megapixel Sony IMX371 sensor front camera. The rear camera of the device captures great photos. The front camera is equally good. The selfies taken on the smartphone are great.
OnePlus 5 packs a 3,300 mAh battery which comes with company’s own Dash Charge tech. The device can easily last for a day in one charge. The fast charging is really very fast.. It comes with Fingerprint sensor under home button.
OnePlus 5 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Oxygen OS on top. It comes in 64GB and 128GB internal storage options which cannot be expanded. It is a dual sim device with dual standby support.
