As expected, Xiaomi, today at an event in China added two new smartphones to their product portfolio. Dubbed as the Mi 5s, the smartphone is essentially an upgrade to the company’s flagship smartphone- Mi 5. Secondly, the Mi 5s Plus will retain all the specifications of the Mi 5s, plus a bigger screen and dual camera setup on the rear.
Speaking about the specifications of the Mi 5s, it has the same 5.15-inch 1080p display as its predecessor, however, the innards of the smartphone are upgraded with the latest Snapdragon 821 chipset and 4GB of RAM. The chipset is also an upgrade to the already existing flagship chip- Snapdragon 820.

In terms of camera, the Mi 5s comes with a 12MP sensor on the rear and it uses the Sony’s IMX 378 sensor accompanied by dual LED flash and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). That being said, there is a 4MP shooter on the front for covering up the selfies and video calls.
For the first time, Xiaomi is using ultrasonic technology to power the smartphone’s fingerprint sensor, which not only makes the device look premium but also unlocks the smartphone faster than its predecessor. All the regular connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and USB OTG are present in this device. The Xiaomi Mi 5s packs a 3,000mAh battery and has support for Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 technology.

Coming to the Mi 5s Plus, it features a large 5.7-inch display, which is also a 1080p panel and comes with the same Snapdragon 821 chipset, but has two RAM variants- 4GB/6GB. The major highlight of the smartphone will be the 13MP dual rear camera with ClearSight technology which results in some good looking shots. Also, the Mi 5s Plus comes with a larger 3,800mAh battery to stay for longer durations.
In terms of pricing, the Mi 5s is priced at CNY 1,999 (approx. Rs. 19,999) for the base 64GB variant and the 128GB variant costs CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 22,990). And, the Mi 5s Plus 64GB variant costs CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 22,990) for the 4GB RAM variant and comes with a price tag of CNY 2,599 (approx Rs. 25,990). Both the devices will go on sale from September 29.
