Earlier this year Chinese smartphone maker OPPO had announced its online only sub-brand Realme. OPPO’s senior executive, Sky Li has resigned from OPPO and announces Realme as a separate brand.
Sky Li is now global CEO of Realme brand. The online only mobile phone brand has already launched its Realme 1 smartphone in India. The new company might be launched in other countries in coming months.
Realme founder Sky Li led OPPO to grow from the business available in 3 markets to one that covers 31 countries and regions including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania.
Speaking on the new role, Sky Li Global CEO, Realme, said, “Smartphones today are extension of personality and not just communication tools. Young people across the globe may have different cellphone habits and aesthetic views but their demands are similar in terms of performance and design. With few options available in the market to meet the ever-changing customer demand, Realme is focusing on bridging the gap by providing products with the latest tech innovations along with strong performance and stylish designs. As Realme is targeting global market, we aspire to inject fresh momentum into the global smartphone industry.”
Realme 1 is available in India via online retailer Amazon. The company might introduce more phones in India in coming months.
