Selfie smartphones race has increased a lot in recent times with several manufacturers stepping up of their own and releasing a smartphone which is exclusive for selfies. It is worth noticing that they even tweak the camera app to match the customer needs.
One such manufacturer is Oppo, whose F1 range of smartphones released till date are selfie-centric smartphones. Recently, the Chinese vendor launched a new smartphone under the same F1 series, dubbed as the Oppo F1s, which is cut down version of the Oppo F1 Plus released early this year.
On the other hand, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer struggling to hold its own is the Gionee, which also launched a new smartphone under their portfolio and it focuses on selfie camera. The smartphone is known as the Gionee S6s.
Well, the entry-level category is also heating up these days and another Chinese brand, Coolpad launched a new handset, namely, the Coolpad Mega 2.5D, which is priced at the sub Rs. 10,000 bracket. Now, let’s get started with the comparison of the three smartphones specs wise and see how they fare.
Design
Oppo has the knack of delivering some good looking smartphones. The Oppo F1s looks like the stripped down version of the Oppo F1 Plus with 2.5D curved glass on the front. All the three smartphones have a metal body. The Gionee S6s looks like a typical Gionee smartphone with three capacitive buttons. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D also has the 2.5D curved glass on the front and also all the three phones feature the metal body.
Display
All the three smartphones have the same display size, which is 5.5-inch. But, the Gionee S6s features a 1080p display with a pixel density of 401 PPI. On the other hand, both the Oppo F1s and Coolpad Mega 2.5D features a 720p display, which is underwhelming, at least for the Oppo F1s, which is priced aggressively.
Hardware
All the three smartphones pack MediaTek chipsets. However, the chipset on the Gionee S6s is quite powerful than the two as it has a MediaTek MT6735 chip. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D comes with entry-level chip MediaTek MT6735P and the Oppo F1s also has a powerful processor MediaTek MT6750. All the three smartphones arrive with 3GB of RAM.
Camera
Things get interesting in the camera department as all the three smartphones are touted to be selfie-centric smartphones. That said, the Oppo F1s is expected to perform better in this department with its front-facing 16MP camera, which takes some stunning images. Nevertheless, the Gionee S6s is also a good smartphone but with 8MP front-facing shooter and the Coolpad Mega 2.5D also has the same camera resolution of 8MP. Having said that, the Gionee S6s and Oppo F1s comes with a 13MP rear shooter with support for LED flash, whereas the Coolpad Mega 2.5D has an only 8MP rear facing shooter.
Battery and Software
All the three smartphones come with bigger batteries, however, the lower end of the spectrum is the Coolpad Mega 2.5D with 2,500mAh battery capacity. And, the Oppo F1s has 3,075mAh battery capacity which is slightly smaller when compared to Gionee’s 3,150mAh battery.
Both the Gionee S6s and Coolpad Mega 2.5D boots Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box with the company’s own UI on top of it. The Oppo F1s comes with relatively older Android Lollipop on board, which is very much underwhelming considering the fact that Android 7.0 Nougat is already out for Nexus devices.
Verdict
All the three smartphones have some decent set of specs, however, the Oppo F1s clearly wins the race between the three due to its bigger front-facing camera. Also, the Coolpad Mega 2.5D is priced at Rs. 6,999 and lies in the entry-level segment and doesn’t match up with the Oppo F1s and Gionee S6s, which are priced at Rs. 17,990 and Rs. 17,499 respectively. However considering its price, Coolpad Mega can’t be ignored.
