Android One

Google at an event has announced its Android One Program in India. Google Android One is new program to deliver low-cost Android smartphones in emerging markets. Google has launched three new Android One smartphone from local vendors.

Spice Dream Uno was detailed yesterday only thanks to Flipkart. Today Micromax has also announced Android One smartphone Micromax Canvas A1. Karbonn has also launched Karbonn Sparkle V Android One smartphone.

All three smartphone carry the same specs but design. All smartphone has 4.5 inch FWVGA screen, 1.3 GHz quad core MediaTek processor, 1 GB RAM, 5 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera and runs on Android Kitkat.

What’s more interesting about these smartphones is that these smartphone will be sold on different online stores viz Flipkart, Karbonn and Spice.

Google has announced partnership with Airtel. Airtel will offer free OS upgrades and 200 MB free data to download app for first six months. Google has announced that these smartphones will get Android L update.

Android One powered handsets will receive updates directly from Google. OEMs can add their own apps. This is like Nexus devices which gets updates directly from Google. It will help manufacturers to seed latest updates without much lengthy process.

Google will provide reference design to OEM which will help in reducing the cost of the phone. Android One smartphones will have Stock Android, Automatic updates and Play Auto Installs.

The price of these smartphones start at Rs. 6,299.
