OnePlus, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer launched its second smartphone, OnePlus 2 last month. The smartphone will go on sale in India from next week for Rs. 24,999.
OnePlus 2 will be sold via online retailer Amazon in India. But to buy a OnePlus two, you need an Invite. The company is using the same Invite system to sell the smartphone worldwide. Oneplus 2 runs on Oxygen OS based on Android Lollipop.
Whenever any company launches a new product, it tend to take a dig at their competitors and tries to prove that their product is superior than the competitor product. Until now we haven’t seen OnePlus taking dig at any other smartphone vendor.
But surprisingly Couple of days ago, OnePlus tries to take a dig at Micromax’s YU Televentures. The company took to Twitter and made fun of Yu’s name – “YU Play God”.
OnePlus India in a tweet said, ” Y U play God? Just let the fans decide who get to play what. #OnePlus2 #2016FlagshipKiller”. The company also posted a photo showing the wings on a OnePlus 2. The company wants users to decide which smartphone is like a god.
You might be thinking why OnePlus, whose smartphones are priced twice than the Micromax YU smartphones, is taking a dig at YU. Well the answer is very simple.
Back in December last year, OnePlus debuted in India with OnePlus One running on CyanogenMod. Soon after that, Micromax announced online only smartphone brand, YU. The company made an exclusive deal with Cyanogen.
The deal prevents any other smartphone running on Cyanogen from getting a OTA update in India. Things became ugly for OnePlus, as they didn’t have any own custom ROM. The company rushed and announced that they will release their own custom ROM.
In January, OnePlus announced OxygenOS ROM and it was released to all users in April. The latest smartphone also runs on OxygenOS rather than CyanogenMod.
So because of this, OnePlus took a dig at Yu on Twitter. Well the company has now deleted the tweet. It’s good that the company realized its mistake and retracted the tweet.
